COVID-19
As of June 27th, 2021, there are currently 893,147 cases of COVID-19 and 17,913 deaths in AZ. There are still a high number of cases, and there are currently 6,423,651 doses of the vaccine that have been administered. The vaccine has now been made available for children, please get vaccinated not only for your health but for the health of those around you.
We are looking for people to share their experience with the vaccine/COVID-19 with us, please reach out to us through any of our social media accounts (@ Fuerteaz) or at info@fuerte.org if you are interested. We want to showcase the resiliency and experiences of our communities through creation.
Fuerte has officially launched its COVID-19 Response program to assist our community work through the aftermath of the pandemic.
The program aims to create a free, safe, community space where we can come and heal together. We are offering two events:
-Art Healing Workshops are open to the public online/in-person meetings in which participants can express their experiences through all forms of art. The first workshop took place last month, be sure to read about it in our event section of the newsletter! Sign up for the next workshop here:
-Healing Circles are intimate, closed group therapy sessions led by a licensed therapist. The meetings will be held in both English and Spanish and will be on separate days.

Immigration
9 Years of DACA: June 15th marked the celebration of the 9th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Fuerte and other local groups and organizations met outside of the Capitol to hear stories of DACA recipients, the course that the program has faced, and the importance of advocating and fighting for more. Members of the community are demanding that elected officials pass inclusive legislation that provides a pathway to citizenship not only for DACA recipients but for the other 11 million undocumented families in this country.
BUDGET
The Arizona House has just approved a $1.9 billion income tax cut that mainly benefits the wealthy. Joined by the Senate, who also approved the tax cuts and other bills benefiting high earning taxpayers from the effects of the new 3,5% tax surcharge that voters approved in November boosting funding for education (Prop 208). The estimated $827 million a year in new money will still go to schools, but it will come out of the general fund, preventing the state from funding other programs.
The breakdown is that the average Arizonan earning between $75,000 and $100,000 will save $231 a year in state income taxes, while the average taxpayer earning between $500,000 and $1 million a year will save more than $12,000.
VOTING RIGHTS
There have been many anti-voter provisions included in the budget that have passed both the House and the Senate and are awaiting the signature of Gov. Ducey. These include: taking away the power to settle election-related lawsuits from the Sec. of State and giving it to the Attorney General Applies only until January 2023.
Authorizing the Attorney General and outside third parties hired by the legislature to sift through the voter registration database, and giving them the power to remove people from the rolls.
POLICING
Also introduced during the budget hearing was an amendment to eliminate all civilians from the civilian review boards on police misconduct. The members will now be made up of current police officers or former police officers. Civilian review boards were created to hold police accountable following the public outrage of police brutality. They will now be allowed to police themselves which we know will not create change within their systems of operations.

July: We have a packed month in July with a secret project that will be showcased at First Friday at 2nd St and Roosevelt at 7 PM. Don’t miss the COVID-19 Response Healing Circles, the first one in English on July 6th and the Spanish one on July 8th. Followed by our second Covid 19 art workshop focusing on poetry on July 27th.

Desde el 27 de junio de 2021, hay 893,147 casos de COVID-19 y 17,913 muertes en AZ. Sigue habiendo un nivel alto de casos y de hecho se han administrado 6.423.651 dosis de la vacuna. La vacuna ya está disponible para los niños, entonces por favor, vacúnese no sólo para su salud, sino para la salud de los que le rodean.

Fuerte ha oficialmente lanzado su programa de respuesta al COVID-19 para ayudar a nuestra comunidad afrontar las secuelas de la pandemia.
El objetivo del programa es crear un espacio comunitario, libre y seguro, donde podamos venir y sanar juntos. Estamos ofreciendo dos eventos:
-Talleres de Arte y Sanación están abiertos al público virtual o en persona para los que quieran expresar sus experiencias usando todas las formas de arte. El primer taller ocurrio el mes pasado, y la próxima ocurrirá el 27 de julio
-Los Círculos de Sanación son sesiones de terapia de grupo cerrado dirigidas por un terapeuta licenciado. Las reuniones se ofrecerán en inglés y español en días separados.

ImmigraCIÓN
El 15 de junio se reconoce como el 9º aniversario de la Acción Diferida por las Llegadas en la Infancia (DACA). Fuerte y otros grupos y organizaciones locales se reunieron fuera del Capitolio para escuchar las historias de los beneficiarios de DACA, lo que el programa ha enfrentado, y la importancia de abogar y luchar por más. Los miembros de la comunidad están exigiendo que los funcionarios electos aprueben legislación inclusiva que proporcione un camino a la ciudadanía no sólo para los beneficiarios de DACA, sino para los otros 11 millones de familias indocumentadas en este país.
PRESUPUESTO
La Cámara de Arizona acaba de aprobar un recorte de $1.9 mil millones en impuestos que beneficia principalmente a los ricos. Derecho al voto
Han habido muchas provisiones anti-votantes incluidas en el presupuesto y están en la espera de la firma del Gobernador Ducey, después de ser aprobadas por la Cámara de Representantes y el Senado. Se incluyen: quitar el poder de resolver demandas electorales relacionadas con el Sec. de Estado y dárselo al Fiscal General Se aplica sólo hasta enero de 2023. Esto autoriza al Fiscal General y a contratados externos por la legislatura para revisar la base de datos de registro de votantes y darles el poder de eliminar a las personas de las listas.
POLICÍA
En la reunión sobre el presupuesto también se introdujo una enmienda que elimina a los ciudadanos de la junta de revisión que supervisa la mala conducta de la policía. Los miembros de la junta ahora estarán compuestos de oficiales de policía actuales y pasados. Se creó la junta de revisión civil para exigir responsabilidades a la policía tras el ultraje público de la brutalidad policiaca. Ahora se les permitirá vigilarse a sí mismos, y sabemos que esto no creará cambios dentro de sus sistemas de operaciones.
