Job Description: Fuerte Canvasser

  • Role: Canvasser
  • Managed by: Field Manager
  • Location: Based in AZ Congressional District 1 with travel required to assigned canvassing locations. Subject to change to wider Maricopa County as campaign develops.
  • Terms of Employment: Full-time employee.
  • Start Date: April 1, 2025
  • Compensation: Salary of $45,000 per year, with potential for [bonuses/incentives, if applicable].

Our mission is to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities, particularly tenants, by increasing voter participation, advocating for housing justice, and empowering community members to take action.

Position Description
As a full-time Canvasser, you will be responsible for conducting door-to-door outreach to engage community members and provide them with information about volunteer opportunities. Additionally, you will dedicate some hours per week to special projects that align with Fuerte’s goals, fostering professional growth and contributing to the broader mission of the organization as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Canvassing and Outreach 

  • Knock on doors and engage with community members using prepared scripts to educate them about civic engagement opportunities.
  • Schedule one-on-one meetings between community members and Fuerte organizers.
  • Collect and record accurate data from each interaction, including outcomes of conversations and commitments made.
  • Represent Fuerte in a professional, respectful, and approachable manner during all outreach activities.
  • Report daily metrics to the Field Manager, including doors knocked, meaningful conversations held, and 1:1s scheduled.
  • Participate in team meetings, debriefs, and training sessions to improve skills and strategies.

Special Projects
Support in special projects that contribute to Fuerte’s mission and enhance your professional experience. Assigned as needed and subject to change depending on success with key responsibilities.

Qualifications
Must-Have:

  • Passion for social justice and a commitment to engaging underrepresented communities.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors and walk for extended periods.
  • Punctuality, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable with using smartphones or tablets for data entry.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience with canvassing, community organizing, or sales.
  • Proficiency in Spanish or other languages spoken in the community.
  • Familiarity with housing, racial or economic justice or civic engagement issues.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, seasonal position with a salary of 45,000 a year. Additional incentives may be available based on performance. Training, support, and professional development opportunities are provided to ensure success in the role.
