The conviction of Derek Chauvin, the cop who brutalized and murdered George Floyd, is a rare moment where the courts side with the people. We can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that this man will no longer continue to harm an entire community. True justice would be that Chauvin would never have been in a position of power over our communities and George Floyd would be alive and with his family today.
Our hope is that this moment is a sign of more victories to come. That the systemic racism baked into policing across the country is dismantled and we can reimagine and implement community safety in partnership with communities of color, not in spite of them. We continue to fight for justice and for a future where Black, Latinx, and Indigenous communities are not seen as the enemy, are not victimized by police, and can live their lives safe from police violence. #BlackLivesMatter #LasVidasNegrasImportan
